Belkyra

Belkyra (aka Kybella)

Say goodbye to your double chin.

BELKYRA™ is an aesthetic procedure called Kybella Injectable in the United States and Belkyra Injectable in Canada and is an FDA and Health Canada approved as a safe injectable substance that is used to reduce and potentially eliminate fat under the chin. The goal is a non-surgical and non-invasive removal of the double chin.

Dr. Hollis has many years of treating the submental region with Smartlipo and Coolsculpting for fat removal and Titan for skin tightening. Dr. Hollis has successfully treated thousands of patients with injectables and is one of the few physicians in Victoria trained and certified to deliver Belkyra.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Is Belkyra right for me?

Belkyra may be right for you if:

    • You’re bothered by fullness under the chin
    • Surgery is not an option for you
    • You eat well and exercise, but fullness under your chin does not go away
  2. How is Belkyra administered?

Belkyra is typically given in a 15-20 minute in-office treatment session.  Your doctor will administer a series of injections into the area under your chin at each treatment session.

Your doctor will customize your Belkyra treatment based on your treatment goals.  Together, you will decide the treatment plan that’s right for you.

  3. How many treatments will I need?

Many patients treated with Belkyra experience visible improvement of their chin profile in 2 to 4 treatments.  Some people require up to 6 treatments in order to achieve results. Once your goals have been met, re-treatment is not expected.

  4. Is there downtime?

For most patients, downtime is minimal and occurred most commonly after the first treatment session.  When scheduling your treatments, keep your social plans and work commitments in mind.

  5. Will I experience any side effects?

As with other injectable treatments, you may experience side effects with Belkyra.  The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, pain and numbness.  Please see Important Safety Information for additional side effects of Belkyra.

In clinical trials, the incidence and severity of most side effects was generally mild to moderate and decreased with subsequent Belkyra treatments.

Prior to administering Belkyra, your doctor may apply ice/cold packs or topical and/or injectable local anesthesia (e.g., lidocaine) to the treatment area to make you more comfortable.  He or she may also suggest you take an over-the-counter pain reliever before your appointment.  After treatment, apply ice or a cold pack to the treatment area for 10 to 15 minutes, as needed.
