Pearl Fractional

Pearl Fractional is a new fractional ablative laser by Cutera®. This treatment has an exclusive laser wavelength that was selected to maximize results and safety in a single treatment while minimizing downtime. Through an optimized combination of ablation and coagulation, this treatment aggressively treats the signs of photoaging, deep dermal imperfections and difficult-to-treat areas around the mouth and eyes. Pearl Fractional presents fractional ablation in a new light. This treatment includes a complete cosmeceutical skin care line.

  1. What is the Pearl Fractional Treatment?

Pearl Fractional is a new, volumizing, fractional laser perfected for treating photo damaged skin in just one treatment.  Pearl Fractional offers the best combination of patient experience and recovery time.  Patients see improvements in brown spots, sun damage, tone and texture and have a noticeably smoother, brighter complexion.

  2. What does fractional mean? How does the Pearl Fractional work?

Fractional therapy describes a treatment that exposes only a fraction of the skin to the laser beam in a pattern of tiny dots.  With Pearl Fractional, laser pulses place tiny holes in the skin.  Columns of damaged tissue are selectively removed, leaving surrounding skin intact.

The treatment shortens healing time and stimulates the body’s own natural process for creating new collagen, plumping the skin from below and reversing photo aging and other imperfections.

    • Tiny holes enable safe treatment and a rapid recovery
    • The treatment provides results in a single session
    • Controlled energy means maximum results with a more comfortable patient experience
  3. How many treatments are recommended?

Most patients will see significant improvements after just one treatment

  4. Who is a candidate for Pearl Fractional?

Patients with light-to-medium skin tones and skin imperfections due to aging and sun damage will benefit from a Pearl Fractional treatment.

  5. What areas of the face can be treated?

Pearl Fractional can be used on the entire face and is uniquely effective in treating the delicate periorbital (around the eyes) and perioral (around the mouth) areas.  These areas often show the first signs of aging and can be the most challenging to treat.

  6. How does a Pearl Fractional treatment feel?

Most patients describe the treatment as a series of fast, hot pinches.  A topical numbing cream is applied to the skin prior to treatment to alleviate most discomfort.  Practitioners may choose to augment topical creams with other medications based on patient need.

  7. When will I see results? How soon can I wear make-up?

Many patients see improvements one week after treatment.  Maximum results are visible in one to three months.  Patients may apply make-up five days after treatment.

  8. Are there any restrictions on my activity after a Pearl Fractional procedure?

After treatment, the skin looks sunburned and may be slightly swollen.  Patients report little or no discomfort post-treatment.  During post-care, patients apply ointment to the skin for four to five days and should limit sun exposure and wear protective clothing.

  9. Can Pearl Fractional be part of a combined therapy?

Many patients have a Pearl Fractional treatment in combination with other existing cosmetic therapies.  These include other Cutera laser and light procedures, such as Pearl, Laser Genesis, and LimeLight.  Discuss combination treatment options with your practitioner.

  10. How does Pearl Fractional compare to other fractional laser treatments?

Pearl Fractional’s unique laser wavelength offers a safe and effective treatment to reverse the signs of aging.  This combination gives patients dramatic results in a single treatment with a quick, one week recovery period.

Pearl

The Pearl targets aging and sun damaged skin, offering you a shortcut back to the pearly glow of youth. This is a fantastic option for those looking to treat fine lines, uneven skin texture and dark spots resulting from sun damage. This treatment includes a complete cosmeceutical skin care line.

  1. What is the Pearl procedure?

The Pearl procedure combines the impact of resurfacing lasers with the gentleness and safety of non-invasive procedures to treat aging and sun-damaged skin.  Pearl reduces wrinkles, uneven texture and solar damage with fewer treatments and less overall recovery than other technologies to provide a healthy, pearl-like glow.

  2. How does the Pearl treatment work?

During the procedure, the top layer of skin is treated with pulses of light in a pre-selected pattern.  The laser simultaneously sends heat to the deeper layers of skin to provide longer-term benefits.  A natural protective dressing forms on the skin to minimize downtime during the restorative process.  On day 3 or 4, this natural dressing will peel or slough off, revealing new, healthy, vibrant skin underneath.

In a short time, patients will notice overall skin clarity, smoothness and softness – all from a 15 minute treatment with only 3 – 4 days of “social” downtime.

  3. What is social downtime?

Downtime is the time spent recovering from a procedure.  With “social” downtime, you can continue your normal daily activities.  However, you may not wish to attend important social events because your face will appear pink/red for 3-4 days.

  4. How does a Pearl treatment feel?

The Pearl treatment feels like a series of brief pinches.  On a scale of 1-10, with 10 representing pain, most patients report the treatment feeling like a 2 or 3.

  5. When will I see results? How soon can I wear make-up after a Pearl treatment?

Results are noticeable by day 3 or 4, when the superficial tissue has peeled off, revealing fresh, bright, healthy skin underneath.  Make-up may be applied at this time.

  6. Are there any restrictions on my activity after a Pearl treatment?

After treatment, the skin will look and feel mildly sunburned.  You will apply ointment on the skin for 3-4 days.  Since you cannot wear sunscreen during this time, you will need to wear protective clothing and limit sun exposure for a few days after the treatment.

  7. How many treatments are recommended?

Some patients may require two treatments spaced approximately one month apart to achieve the desired results.  Other patients may need only one treatment.

  8. Can Pearl be part of a combination therapy treatment?

Yes, patients may choose to have a Pearl treatment combined with other Cutera procedures such as Laser Genesis and/or Titan, as well as fillers or Botox®.  Discuss combination therapies with your practitioner.

  9. How does Pearl compare to other laser treatments?

Pearl offers the most effective treatment to address fine lines, uneven texture and discoloration without wound care and the lengthy downtime required with certain Erbium and CO2 laser procedures.

Compared to today’s fractionated technologies, Pearl offers noticeable results in just one treatment versus 4-6 fractionated treatments.

  10. Who is a candidate for a Pearl treatment?

Patients with light to medium skin tones and mild to moderate sun damage are the ideal candidates.

  11. Does Cutera have FDA clearance for the Pearl laser?

Yes, Cutera received FDA clearance in March 2007 for the treatment of wrinkles and skin resurfacing.

Pearl Fusion

The Pearl Treatment and Pearl Fractional Lasers combined achieve the benefits of both procedures in a single appointment. Pearl laser skin resurfacing removes sun damage and stimulates collagen remodeling to reduce fine lines and pore size. Immediately following the Pearl Treatment, the Pearl Fractional Laser treats deeper textural concerns specifically around the mouth, eyes and cheeks to improve deep lines commonly found in mature and aging skin as collagen and elastin production slows down. This treatment includes a complete cosmeceutical skin care line.
